Link: Brazilian farmers win big against Monsanto

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are only going to become more prevalent in the future, so it’s important that we establish good legislature now. They can be extremely beneficial, and increased crops have saved millions of people from starvation. However, Monsanto has had some bad legal policies and those demonstrated in this article are perfect examples. By all means, sell your seeds to whoever wants them, even the next generation if you’re feeling protective. After a certain number of generations though, that seed’s genome is definitely different from what you sold them and you have no right to continue gathering royalties on it. A good win by the Brazilian farmers, hopefully it holds up.
